Jeff Davis's Hostel

A trail hostel near Mount Rogers rents four different kinds of space — bunks, glamping units, tent sites, and RV parking — each with its own availability. Off-the-shelf booking platforms charge per reservation and do not model that mix well. The owner needed to take payment online, manage inventory without calling a developer, and never double-book a bunk.

We built the booking system ourselves on the same Astro and Payload stack as the marketing site, with Square handling payments. Availability checks run inside a transaction so two people hitting Book at the same moment cannot claim the same unit. There are no guest accounts to create — a hiker books in one pass. Alongside it we wrote a trail-guide blog covering Grayson Highlands, the Virginia Creeper Trail, and Mount Rogers, which pulls in exactly the people who need a bed nearby.

The hostel takes reservations directly instead of paying commission on every booking, and the owner manages pricing and inventory from the CMS. The trail-guide content brings in hikers researching the area months before they arrive.
