The Challenge
The nonprofit's WordPress site had been compromised, and the domain had landed on bot exploit lists — meaning it was being probed constantly. A Smart Start affiliate running six programs across Alleghany County needed the site back, needed it to stop being a target, and needed it to serve a community where English is not everyone's first language.
Our Solution
A full rebuild that removes the attack surface rather than patching it. The public site is static Astro with no PHP and no database to reach, while content lives in a Payload CMS admin kept separate from the front end. Donations run through Stripe, media through Cloudflare R2. The whole site ships in both English and Spanish from the same content model, so a Spanish-speaking parent gets the real site rather than a machine translation.
The Results
The nonprofit is off a compromised platform and onto one with nothing exposed to exploit, with staff able to publish programs, events, and news themselves in both languages.
